«C'est un miroir de ...» : le fils de Frantz Fanon écrit à Ousmane Sonko
Frantz Fanon's son, Olivier Fanon, was deeply moved by the tribute paid to his father by Ousmane Sonko at the symposium celebrating the centenary of the renowned thinker at the Museum of Black Civilizations. From Algiers, he sent a message of congratulations to the Senegalese Prime Minister, seeing it as a historic and symbolic response to the controversial "Dakar Speech" of 2007.
Quoted by Le Soleil, Olivier Fanon describes Ousmane Sonko's intervention as "a mirror of insult," referring to Nicolas Sarkozy's remarks seventeen years earlier, when he asserted that "African man has not sufficiently entered into history." For the son of the illustrious psychiatrist and revolutionary, this tribute acts as a true act of redress.
In his address, described as "high-flying," the Prime Minister portrayed Frantz Fanon as a "physician of souls, attentive to both personal wounds and collective fractures." Beyond the tribute, Ousmane Sonko urged African youth not to limit themselves to a simple commemoration, but to "carry on the thinker" by incorporating his ideas into current struggles for sovereignty, the national daily newspaper reports.
