Grand-Yoff : Démantèlement d'une boulangerie clandestine aux conditions d'hygiène exécrables
The Grand-Yoff district police station shut down an illegal bakery that had been operating in extremely unsanitary conditions for over ten years at the Bignona garage in the catchment area. The owners were taken into custody.
On November 24, 2025, around 7:00 p.m., a foot patrol from the Criminal Investigation Unit was conducting security patrols in the area. It was upon noticing thick smoke billowing from a squalid building nestled within the grounds of the well-known Bignona garage that the officers decided to investigate. Inside, they discovered an illegal bakery run by three individuals, operating in unacceptable sanitary conditions. An inspection of the premises, carried out in the presence of the three operators, revealed an alarming state of hygiene: 227 baguettes of bread spread out on an unsuitable sheet infested with mealworms, cockroaches living alongside the loaves, and microbial mold enveloping the baked goods.
The equipment was archaic and the production conditions deplorable, including an antiquated flour mixer, two ovens preheated with coal, about twenty wooden trays filled with balls of flour, eight sacks of flour spread out on the floor, and unsuitable carts for transporting food. Not to mention the appalling hygiene, with eleven open water bottles used for bread preparation, a nauseating stench pervading the premises, and widespread unsanitary conditions.

An activity that had been going on for more than ten years
Perhaps the most disturbing element of this case lies in its duration: the initial local investigation revealed that this clandestine bakery had existed in these deplorable conditions for more than a decade, presumably supplying the neighborhood with products unfit for consumption.

The entire production equipment was seized and sealed, and the premises were closed. The three bakery operators were taken into custody for several serious offenses: producing and selling food unfit for consumption, misrepresenting product quality, endangering the lives of others, and violating regulations governing bakery and pastry-making activities in Senegal.
