Guédiawaye : une jeune femme de 19 ans déférée pour infanticide

In Guédiawaye, 19-year-old Mame Diarra G. was brought before the public prosecutor for strangling her newborn to death. Originally from Touba and living with her mother in the Kawsara Fall neighborhood (Wakhinane-Nimzatt commune), she had managed to hide her pregnancy from those around her.

In August, L'Observateur reports, she gave birth alone in her room in the absence of her mother, who worked as a cleaning technician and was rarely present during the week. After giving birth, the young woman cleaned the baby, cut the umbilical cord, and then suffocated him in his bed. But she was surprised by a neighbor: rumors spread in the neighborhood, leading to police intervention.

The child's lifeless body was discovered, and an autopsy revealed death by mechanical strangulation. When questioned, the accused's mother claimed to have never noticed her daughter was pregnant. Recounted by the Groupe Futur Médias daily, she denied any involvement, telling investigators that she neither saw nor suspected what was happening. According to her, her daughter had changed her behavior and clothing, but she thought it was simply a change of style.

Finally, cornered, Mame Diarra admitted to having suffocated her child just after giving birth. Weakened by a pregnancy that had not been medically monitored, she was initially treated before being taken into custody, then brought before the Pikine-Guédiawaye court.
