The prosecution has requested a life sentence for Ngor Sarr, who is being prosecuted for attempted murder with acts of barbarity against Vieux Ousmane Gning. The events date back to December 10, 2022, in Ndiaganiao.

According to the court proceedings, the two men were at Auguste Tine's home for a funeral. Intoxicated, they reportedly had a heated argument during the evening. Faced with the escalating tension, Auguste Tine allegedly asked Ngor Sarr to leave.

A few hours later, at dawn, officers from the Ndiaganiao brigade were alerted to the presence of a seriously injured man on a dirt track. Upon arrival, the gendarmes discovered Vieux Ousmane Gning in critical condition, his face completely disfigured after several machete blows. The victim also suffered multiple fractures and significant tooth loss.

Despite his injuries, Vieux Ousmane Gning identified Ngor Sarr as his attacker. However, Sarr categorically denies the accusations. The farmer maintains that he did not carry out the attack. He explains that a neighbor had come to tell him that someone was dying on the road and that he had asked him to fetch some water before going to see what was happening.

In his closing argument, the prosecutor emphasized the testimonies gathered during the investigation. According to the prosecution, several witnesses stated that Ngor Sarr had threatened to kill the victim after their argument. The prosecution argued that the violence of the blows, the use of a machete, and the targeted body parts clearly demonstrated an intent to kill.

The prosecution also believes the accused ambushed his victim after their altercation. The prosecutor noted that Ngor Sarr's home was located near the scene of the attack before requesting a life sentence.

The defense, led by Omar Sène, argued for acquittal based on reasonable doubt. The lawyer emphasized that his client had never admitted to the crime and maintained that Ngor Sarr's accusation rested solely on the altercation that had occurred a few hours earlier.

Attorney Omar Sène also raised the issue of the victim's intoxication, which he believes may have impaired his judgment. He denies any premeditation or the existence of an ambush. As a secondary argument, the defense requested that the charges be reduced to assault and battery, arguing that intent to kill has not been established.

The verdict is expected on June 19, 2026.
