Pavillon spécial : Farba Ngom prend une décision radicale
Visits to Farba Ngom, the member of parliament and mayor of Agnam, who has been detained for nearly a year as part of legal proceedings following a report by the National Financial Intelligence Processing Unit (CENTIF), have been temporarily suspended for medical and preventative reasons. According to a statement from his communications office, seen by L'Observateur, this decision is based on "formal medical opinions" indicating that his health is considered particularly fragile and incompatible with the prison environment, requiring rest, tranquility, and strict medical monitoring.
"Given the particularly fragile state of health of the honorable deputy-mayor, Mouhamadou Ngom dit Farba Ngom, and in accordance with the formal medical opinions issued by his attending physicians, supported by communications from his legal counsel, it has been decided to temporarily suspend all visits to him," indicates the communication unit of the head of the APR.
While justifying this measure, Farba Ngom was keen to acknowledge the constant support of the people of Fouta, the diaspora and many Senegalese, stressing that the visits received so far have constituted "major moral support".
Furthermore, according to the newspaper of the Future Media Group, his lawyer, Moussa Bocar Thiam, has petitioned the prosecutor of the Financial Judicial Pool (PJF) to withdraw the appeal against the decision of the Panel of Investigating Judges ordering his release from detention and placement under judicial supervision. Counsel bases his argument on the alarming findings of medical examinations, maintaining that continued detention poses a life-threatening risk to his client and pleading, on humanitarian grounds, for provisional release.
