CAN 2025 : Coly révèle pourquoi Sadio Mané a annoncé sa retraite
Sadio Mané has hinted that Morocco 2025 will be his last Africa Cup of Nations. The Lions' striker, who scored the only goal and was named man of the match in Senegal's semi-final victory against Egypt, declared after the game that he hopes to win his third and final final of the competition, against Morocco this Sunday. While he believes the 33-year-old can continue his international career, Ferdinand Coly approves of and understands his decision.
“Sadio is a demanding player, focused on performance,” the former Lions defender emphasized in an interview with Source A. “He knows very well that winning two AFCONs or playing in three finals is exceptional. I think it’s a wise and humble decision.”
Coly continued: "He achieved the best he could for his team, and I think that's the mark of a great person. It shows the greatness of the individual to retire knowing he can continue. Finishing on a high note is what we all want, but you have to leave at the right time, even if you still have the legs."
To ensure a perfect send-off, the retired footballer hopes that Sadio Mané and his teammates will defeat Morocco in the final and add a second star to Senegal's jersey. "That would be the icing on the cake, allowing me to leave as the best Senegalese and African of all time. He's the most iconic, the most influential player, the one who has won the most for Senegal," Ferdinand Coly exclaimed.
