Coupe du Monde 2026 : Karim Benzema se livre sans faux semblant
The next World Cup kicks off in June 2026. Six months before the start of this major global football event, the newspaper L'Equipe interviewed Karim Benzema, a player with a mixed history with Didier Deschamps' French national team. The Al Ittihad striker stated, without mincing words, that he would very much like to play in this World Cup with Les Bleus.
"It's a lie to say I don't want to play in a World Cup."
"Who doesn't want to play in the World Cup? Everyone wants to play in the World Cup. Of course, if you tell me you want to be part of the squad to go to the French national team to play in a World Cup, if I tell you no, I'm a liar. It's a lie to say that I don't want to play in a World Cup," declared the Real Madrid legend.
When his interlocutors ask him if the door is open for a return to the French national team, he reminds them that he is a football player who loves doing his job.
"When I get called up, I come and play. I have goals in my head. I love football, I love winning, I love trophies. I'm at my club, if I get called up to the national team, I come to play football," said the Lyon native.
