Contours de l’arrivée de Starlink au Sénégal : Les précisions du Dg de l’ARTP
The arrival of Starlink in Senegal is generating debate. While many of our fellow citizens have applauded this news, others harbor concerns. Some stakeholders have even requested clarification on the details of this new operator's entry into the Senegalese telecommunications sector. This Thursday, the Director General of the Telecommunications and Postal Regulatory Authority addressed the issue.
“I would just like to clarify that Starlink was authorized today based on a set of specifications that the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority worked on, along with all stakeholders, including the Ministry of Communication, Telecommunications and Digital Affairs. But I will leave it to the Ministry, which is responsible for approving and issuing this authorization, to elaborate on the details of this authorization,” Dahirou Thiam stated.
He assures that ARTP, which is the regulator of the sector, will fully play its role: “In any case, we as regulator, assure and reassure all stakeholders that all operators, whoever they may be, will be regulated. And we are here precisely to safeguard the interests of consumers and to ensure the balance of the market,” promises Mr. Thiam.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the “Ettu koom koom” conference, an event initiated by KPMG and focused on the theme “Digital Infrastructure and Universal Connectivity: Challenges, Models and Perspectives”.
