Senegal is going through a delicate economic phase. This is the conviction of Mamadou Ndiaye, a journalist specializing in economics. A guest on the Seneweb Eco program this Sunday, November 16, 2025, he believes this situation is largely due to the poor performance of productive sectors. From agriculture to construction and public works, including the fishing industry, he highlights a slowdown in the Senegalese economy. "The Senegalese economy is not the most robust," he states.

For the journalist, the situation in rural areas reveals current dysfunctions. He points out that "farmers have already harvested the bulk of their crops," but regrets "that no purchasing mechanism is yet in place."

This delay exposes producers to the risk of having to sell their harvests at rock-bottom prices. Without a state purchase mechanism, he says, "they could lose their production or be forced to sell at a loss."

The construction and public works sector, meanwhile, is suffering from unpaid domestic debt owed to companies. This situation, according to an editorialist for E media, is creating a snowball effect and is not reassuring investors. The latter, he said, "are waiting because the climate is not reassuring."

Referring to the industrial and fisheries sectors, which are "running at a snail's pace," Mamadou Ndiaye emphasizes that these simultaneous difficulties are stifling the real economy. Indeed, between the banks' cautious approach, the contraction of private investment, and the government's delays in fulfilling its commitments, "activity is paralyzed," he summarizes.

While the first oil revenues are generating great hopes, the journalist points out that "hydrocarbons will not automatically solve structural problems."

According to him, only a restart of sectors that generate jobs and value will be able to stabilize the economy and restore confidence.
