KOLDA: Les étudiants en grève pour réclamer une bibliothèque
A physical library stocked with books and other manuals on the various higher education disciplines. This is what the students of the relocated university center in Kolda are demanding. These students, on protest strike, faced the press to list the ills plaguing higher education in Kolda.
According to them, it is impossible to conduct exams and other educational assessments without going to a library to consult textbooks. Another grievance is the completion of construction work at Kolda University, which until now has been a relocated center of Assane Seck University in Ziguinchor. This work, which began in 2015, is struggling to be completed.
According to Eric Adolphe Diédhiou, this is a lack of will on the part of the state, and the Kolda students are demanding that work continue to complete the project. Eric Diédhiou adds that, in terms of health, the students are demanding the assignment of a permanent nurse to the university campus and an ambulance to better care for their patients. As if that weren't enough, the Kolda students, whose total enrollment is around 800, are facing a classroom problem. They travel distances to find free rooms, where they are forced to cram in to listen to a few explanations from the professors. Moreover, Eric Adolphe Diédhiou and his classmates are demanding permanent, tenured professors to teach at the University of Kolda.
