Guinée : Tensions dans plusieurs écoles sur fond de grève des enseignants
Incidents broke out on Monday, December 8, 2025, in several schools in Conakry, particularly in the Ratoma district.
In the Nassroulaye district, clashes between students were reported after some of them, deprived of classes for several days due to the SNE-FSPE strike, went to other schools to cause trouble. Stones were thrown, causing panic.
“It was the students who left their schools and threw stones at the Mohamed Lamine Sidibé school. Fortunately, the police intervened in time. Classes were disrupted, and several parents came to pick up their children,” said Younoussa Bah, head of the Nassroulaye neighborhood. No injuries were reported, but property damage was recorded, particularly to the roofs of some schools.
Similar incidents were also reported in Cosa, where students blocked train tracks. Law enforcement used tear gas to disperse the crowds.
According to several students interviewed, these actions are linked to the teachers' strike and aim to demand the resumption of classes. "We simply want to go back to school. As long as nothing changes, we will continue," one student confided.
The situation has since calmed down, although tension remains perceptible in some neighborhoods.
The discontent has also spread to Kankan. Groups of students have taken to the streets to protest the suspension of classes in public schools, sometimes preventing private schools from operating. "We don't think it's fair that some are studying while others stay home. On exam day, the state won't make any distinction," explained one student protester.
These movements come as the inter-union education strike enters its second week, plunging the education sector into an increasingly worrying crisis.
The situation remains under surveillance.
