Niger : Saisie record de 51,7 kg de cocaïne à Gaya, d’une valeur de plus de 2,5 milliards FCFA
On September 29, 2025, the Central Office for the Suppression of Illicit Drug Trafficking (OCRTIS) intercepted 47 bricks of cocaine weighing 51.7 kg, with an estimated value of more than 2.5 billion CFA francs, in Gaya (southwest Niger). Three people were arrested.
According to the police, this operation dismantled part of a vast international drug trafficking network linking Ghana, Niger, and the Maghreb. The vehicle transporting the drugs, a Toyota Highlander equipped with a GPS, was coming from Accra and was due to reach Niamey before being redirected to Agadez.
The searches conducted in Niamey resulted in the seizure of several luxury vehicles, houses, and property deeds linked to members of the network. The case, suspected of being linked to terrorist financing and money laundering activities, was transferred to the Specialized Judicial Unit.
