Port de Dakar : les terribles conséquences de la crise malienne
The blockade of roads in western Mali, imposed by jihadists since last September, is having a detrimental effect on the Senegalese economy. "The crisis has caused a major logistical blockage, with 120 containers per day stuck at the Port of Dakar, generating an estimated loss of 15 billion CFA francs per month," notes a report from the Directorate General of Planning and Economic Policies (DPPE) consulted by Walfadjri.
The document warns: "If the situation persists, the diversification of Malian corridors towards other ports (Nouakchott, Conakry, Lomé) risks reducing Senegalese exports of petroleum products, hydraulic cement and food products, impacting cement plants and refining activity as well as the thousands of truck drivers and traders in the transit regions."
That's not all. The DPPE (Directorate of Planning and Evaluation) indicates that the Malian crisis is also causing a "massive displacement" of people towards Senegal, exacerbating the lack of social infrastructure in border areas such as Tambacounda, Bakel, and Kédougou. The report also highlights the risk of terrorist infiltration and the circulation of small arms, as well as the resurgence of irregular migration; Senegal is becoming a major transit zone towards the Spanish and Italian coasts.
