Beyond their support for the gambling tax, MPs including Thérèse Faye and Amy Dia have called for an increase in taxes on cooking broths and depigmentation products, citing public health concerns. "Cancer kills, and many suffer from it because of these depigmentation products," says the Alliance for the Republic (Apr) activist.
Welcoming the gambling tax, the parliamentarians maintain that in addition to the revenue generated, such a measure is a real act of social health in view of the perverse effects of these practices on a large section of the youth of our country.
Measures against Canal +?
Furthermore, they expressed their concern about the taxation of money transfer transactions. "They felt that this measure risks encouraging the bypassing of transfers in favor of cash, with its share of negative consequences, notably the decline in transaction volumes. This situation will ipso facto lead to a drop in operators' turnover and the share of royalties to be paid to the State," they reported. They added that it is the thousands of young Senegalese active in this sector who risk paying the heaviest price for such a measure. In this regard, they recommended the abolition of the tax on merchant payments.
Furthermore, the deputies expressed concern about the non-taxation of certain imported products circulating on the parallel market, such as mobile phones. They therefore called for more stringent controls to better exploit this niche.
Finally, they asked whether the government had planned any measures against Canal+, which had not hesitated to pass on to consumers the amount of the license fee it now pays to the Senegalese state.

Big up Therese
