Université publique : l’AEEMS dénonce un climat d’inquiétude et appelle à un dialogue responsable
In response to the rising tensions observed in Senegal's public universities over the past several days, the Association of Muslim Students of Senegal (AEEMS) expressed its deep concern on December 6, 2025. The recurring clashes between students and law enforcement have created an alarming atmosphere, according to the organization.
In its statement, the AEEMS (Association of Students and Pupils of Senegal) deplores the continued presence of security forces on university campuses. These spaces, traditionally dedicated to the social, cultural, and academic life of students, should, in its view, remain places of tranquility, far removed from any form of confrontation. The association believes that this situation only exacerbates tensions, thus compromising the serenity necessary for the normal development of educational activities.
While condemning this conflict, the AEEMS calls on all parties involved to prioritize dialogue. It encourages students, authorities, and administrative staff to avoid any recourse to violence and to pursue concerted and responsible solutions. The preservation of university stability and student safety must, according to the organization, remain the absolute priority.
The AEEMS also urges students to exercise restraint in their actions, particularly regarding the preservation of university property. Any damage to infrastructure further weakens the system and risks disrupting the academic year.
The organization also calls on the Senegalese government to urgently provide structural solutions to recurring demands, particularly those related to social conditions and scholarship management. It advocates for proactive, long-term governance coupled with clear and accessible communication.
Therefore, the AEEMS urges all university stakeholders to demonstrate responsibility and a sense of duty in order to guarantee the protection of students, campuses, and the achievements of the higher education system. This appeal aims to restore a peaceful environment conducive to the intellectual development of Senegalese youth.
