Cheikh Tidiane Youm : "Le budget de la Fonction publique est faible, les travailleurs sénégalais maltraités par des étrangers"
MP Cheikh Tidiane Youm strongly denounced the insufficient resources allocated to the Civil Service, a strategic department. According to him, "it is unacceptable that certain agencies have a more comfortable budget than your ministry, while the Civil Service needs resources to meet its numerous challenges."
The parliamentarian advocated for strengthening the administration's capacity, arguing that Senegal must remain attractive to investors while opening itself to all nationalities. However, he stressed the need to review relations with certain new economic partners, due to serious abuses observed on the ground.
Sheikh Tidiane Youm denounced the working conditions imposed on many Senegalese: “In 2025, it is unacceptable that, on our own soil, fellow citizens are treated like slaves.” He pointed the finger at certain foreign companies, particularly Chinese and Turkish ones, accused of employing Senegalese workers without contracts, under irregular conditions: “We observe that nearly 90% of them work illegally. The State must not turn a blind eye.”
The MP also lamented the ease with which workers can be dismissed in Senegal, calling for stronger legal protections and greater vigilance from the administration: "It is sad to see that in Senegal, dismissing an employee is easier than drinking water. Labor inspectors, who are supposed to ensure respect for rights, are often considered one of the most corruptible bodies."
He concluded by calling on the government to take a firm stance and ensure that any investor operating in Senegal respects national legislation and the dignity of workers.
