Macky Sall, Diomaye, Onu : les révélations de Cheikh Yérim Seck
Journalist Cheikh Yérim Seck claimed that former Senegalese President Macky Sall had written to Head of State Bassirou Diomaye Faye to request his support in view of a candidacy for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN).
Speaking on SEN TV, the journalist stated that he had spoken with the former president in Morocco after the last Africa Cup of Nations. According to him, Macky Sall confided in him that he had sent a letter to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye requesting that Senegal officially submit its candidacy to head the international organization.
According to Cheikh Yérim Seck, this ambition was encouraged by several African heads of state. He specifically cites Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara among those who suggested Macky Sall run for this position.
According to the journalist, some African leaders believe that Africa will hardly be able to have a profile comparable to that of Macky Sall in the future, due to his diplomatic relations with several major powers, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Sheikh Yerim Seck also reported that Macky Sall confided in him that, as a Fulani, he found it difficult to ask for a favor. However, the former president reportedly agreed to "put his pride aside" by writing to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to obtain Senegal's official support.
