Cancer du sein à Touba : "N'ayez pas peur", l'appel du Directeur de l'hôpital Matlaboul Fawzeyni aux femmes
To mark Pink October, the Matlaboul Fawzeyni Hospital in Touba launched a major awareness campaign and free breast cancer screening this Thursday. The hospital's director, Dr. Massamba Thioro Sall, called on women to stop being afraid and to get screened.
Facing the press and health workers gathered in the hospital, Dr. Sall first paid tribute to the General Khalifa of the Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, before launching a vibrant plea for early screening.
"I would like to respectfully greet the General Caliph of the Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, may God grant him long life and strong health. On this day marking the launch of Pink October in our hospital, I wish to express my gratitude for your presence. Your commitment to us is a strong signal, a message of hope and solidarity that we send to our entire community," he said.
More than a campaign, a vital mobilization
For the hospital director, Pink October is much more than just an awareness campaign. "It's a global mobilization, and the pink ribbon we're wearing today symbolizes our common fight to defeat breast cancer. Every year, this scourge affects thousands of women in our country, and unfortunately, too many of them leave us. These lost lives are not inevitable," he insisted.
Dr. Sall emphasized the importance of early detection: "Breast cancer, when detected early, is one of the cancers with the best prognosis. Early detection remains our most powerful weapon."
Free screenings and mammograms all month long
Matlaboul Fawzeyni Hospital has put the resources into this edition of Pink October. "I am proud to announce that our institution is mobilizing more than ever with a program of concrete actions: free screening and mammograms. Throughout the month of October, we are setting up dedicated slots for consultations and screenings for women at risk," announced the director.
“Do not be afraid, fear should not be an obstacle to life”
Speaking directly to women, Dr. Massamba Thioro Sall made an urgent appeal: “You are the primary actors in your health. Don’t ignore the warning signs: a lump in the breast, a change in the skin, persistent pain. These symptoms should lead you to consult a doctor without delay. Don’t be afraid. Fear should not be an obstacle to life. Come see us, talk to us, get tested.”
Tribute to healthcare workers and call for solidarity
The director wished to salute the dedication of the hospital's healthcare staff, "whose commitment often goes beyond the scope of their duties", as well as the associative partners, "true relays on the ground, without whom our action would not be as strong".
He also made a solemn appeal to businesses, opinion leaders, and every citizen: "Support this cause, spread the word, take part in this fight, show your solidarity. Together, we can change mentalities and push back this disease."
A fight for future generations
In conclusion, Dr. Sall had a moving thought for all the victims of breast cancer: "I would like us to think together of all those who are fighting against cancer, of those we have lost. It is in their memory and for future generations that we must continue this fight with unwavering determination. It is now, together, that we can write a future where breast cancer will no longer be a threat."
